Tracy-sur-Loire, Pouilly Fume.
Alexandre Bain has deep roots in the region of Pouilly Fume and although his father was not involved in wine his grandfather grew grapes in the region. Alexandre grows 9 hectares of Sauvignon blanc and he farms them with the help of his horse and 1 full time employee. To be out in the vineyard with Alexandre is to see him come alive. His attention to detail and love for the different sites and their individuality is infectious and a joy to listen to.
In the cellar, Alexandre does very little, all the wines are whole bunch pressed, fermented in tank and then racked to barrel. All cellar work is done with the biodynamic calendar in mind and the wines are the result of the expression of each of the vineyards.
Pierre Precieuse 2014– Sauvignon Blanc direct press into tank for natural fermentation, racked to barrel on a fruit day to complete fermentation and elevage.
Terre d’Obus 2014 – Sauvignon Blanc direct press into tank for natural fermentation, racked to large format barrels on a fruit day to complete secondary fermentation.
L d’Ange 2013 – Older vine Sauvignon Blanc and from Alexandre’s favourite vineyard site. Same winemaking as above but put into foudre for elevage.
Mademoiselle M 2012 – Older vine Sauvignon Blanc grown on chalk soils, whole bunch pressed to tank and racked to 500L and 225L barrels for elevage.
